How pip value is worked out
Pip value = Pip size × Contract size × LotsIf the price is quoted in yen, divide by the USDJPY rate to get dollars.
Any pair that ends in USD (EURUSD, GBPUSD, AUDUSD, NZDUSD, XAUUSD) has a fixed pip value in dollars, because the profit is already paid in dollars. Yen pairs change slightly with USDJPY: at 150, one pip on one lot is 1,000 yen ÷ 150 = $6.67.
Cross pairs without the dollar (EURGBP, GBPJPY, AUDCAD…) are converted through the quote currency, using the latest GBPUSD, AUDUSD, NZDUSD, USDJPY, USDCAD and USDCHF prices from our live feed. Type your broker's rate into the panel above if you want its exact figures.
Pip or point?
MT5 measures in points — the smallest price step the broker quotes. On 5-digit forex pairs a pip is 10 points (0.0001 vs 0.00001). On gold, most traders count 0.10 as a pip and 0.01 as a point, so a 1.00 move is 10 pips or 100 points.
